Microsoft SQL 2008/2012 Login Failed

You are trying to login locally on a SQL 2008/2012 Server and get the following error message?:

Cannot connect to (Servername).
Additional information:
Login failed for user ‘(Username)’. (Micrsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

This error occurs when the “Server Authentication” is set to “Windows Authentication mode” instead of “SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode” to fix this issue execute below steps:

1. In the SQL Management Studio login with the SA account or a Domain account to the SQL server
2. Once logged in right-click on the SQL Server instance in the Root Explorer en select “Properties“:

3. Select “Security” from the left pane
4. Select the “SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode” button and click OK

5. Right-click again on the SQL Server instance in the Root Explorer and select “Restart
